June 14,08 WSHL Staff Well Represented at RMD Development Camp WSHL coaches and medical staff were selected to participate at this year’s Rocky Mountain District Development Camp held recently in Salt Lake City, Utah. The camp hosted more than 700 boys and girls (ages 14-17) with hopes of developing skills and being selected to participate in USA Hockey’s National Development Program. WSHL Head Coaches Harry Mahood, Phoenix Polar Bears, and Chad McLeod, Tulsa Rampage, participated in the on-ice skills development, game situations and overall evaluations of the represented players. The coaching experience of these two men helped to make the camp a success. A hockey camp of this caliber always requires behind the scenes coordination and expert medical professionals at the ready should a player get injured. This year’s camp utilized the talents of John Johnson, Medical Trainer Phoenix Polar Bears, and Laura Ellis, Head Athletic Trainer So Cal Bombers. Johnson doubled his responsibilities with the camp; acting as medical staff coordinator as well as providing medical coverage on the bench. Ellis, one of only six medical professionals invited to participate in the camp, was delighted with the opportunity. “I love what I do,” Ellis said. “Being asked to join these medical professionals at such an exciting camp was truly an honor.” The camp was held in Olympic Oval and Acord Ice Center April 30 – May 4.
