Tryout Registration

The San Diego Gulls ownership group has purchased a franchise in the Jr. A Western States Hockey League (WSHL), which will also double as an 18AAA exhibition and tournament team for the upcoming 2008-2009 hockey season. The Gulls will embark on an exciting and innovative new schedule combining WSHL league and play off games with prominent 18AAA holiday tournaments for those players on the roster who are 18AAA age eligible. This unique team concept has many intriguing advantages for the top-flight player. These advantages include:

COST
Food, lodging and travel expenses are provided to the player for all WSHL games (additional cost for 18AAA age eligible players for the 18AAA Tournament schedule will be added)

PRACTICE

  • 4 Hours of on ice practice weekly at very desirable time slots three days per week.
  • Professional strength and conditioning instruction in our on premise fitness facility included twice weekly.

GAMES

  • 48 WSHL games (15 minute warm-up, 20 minute stop time periods with ice cut between each period).
  • 15–20, 18AAA exhibitions/tournament games at high profile tournaments.

LOCKER ROOMS
A brand new dedicated team room with wall-to-wall carpet, individual stalls and state of the art audio/visual system all for the player’s comfort and convenience.

EXPOSURE
The Gulls first priority now and always will be advocating for its players. We feel if we help our players move on our success will be secured. We will use any resources available to move players onto higher levels of hockey including:
 

  • Affiliation with the Wichita Falls Wildcats of the NAHL
  • Relationships with Swift Current and Prince George of the WHL
  • Numerous contacts with USHL personnel as well as NCAA Division I, Division III and college club hockey representatives
  • Participation in high profile 18AAA tournaments
  • Participation in the growing and competitive WSHL

ATTENDANCE
An aggressive marketing and advertising campaign (refer to press release for example) should help ensure strong attendance for all Gulls home games. Spot lights, anthem singer, music between whistles, Gulls mascot, activities between periods, sports memorabilia auctions, as well as an adult beer garden will enhance the Gulls game experience and provide for a fun atmosphere for every member of the family.

Gulls Tryout Camp

The San Diego Gulls will be holding their WSHL/18AAA Exhibition Tournament Team Tryout Camp Friday May 30th from 7:30pm to 10:30pm, Saturday May 31st from 1:15pm-4:15pm and Sunday June 1st from 10:30am-1:30pm at the Iceoplex in Escondido, California. All 1988 to 1993 players are eligible to tryout. Coaches from NCAA Division I Ohio State, NCAA Division III Geneseo State, as well as scouts from the NAHL and WHL will be on hand all weekend and will hold an informational seminar following Saturday’s session to give insight to anyone interested in college or major junior hockey.
