Barrhead is Newest Member of WSHL

by WSHL Staff

The Western States Hockey League is pleased to announce its newest team to the Provincial Division located in the Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.

The city of Barrhead, just northwest of Edmonton, will be the community host for the new team in the 2019-2020 season. The newly minted team will be playing its home games out of the Barrhead Agrena, which has a capacity of 1,500 people.  With the signing by the WSHL of the “User Agreement” both the City Council and the WSHL Executive Committee are finalizing the documentation to be approved by both.

Team ownership will consist of local members of the surrounding area of Barrhead as well as veteran owners who currently own junior teams. With local members in its ownership group, the team hopes to build a strong relationship with the community and other ice hockey groups in town and surrounding area.

Further details will be divulged over the coming weeks including the official name and logo. Barrhead will be the fourth team in the Provincial Division with the Edson Aeros, Hinton Timberwolves, and Meadow Lake Mustangs ready to go for the season opener in early October.

A community meeting will be held on July 10 by the  WSHL to introduce the WSHL to the community and invite members of the community to participate in team operations in areas such as billeting players, game day operations, community service projects for the team, sponsorship opportunities and more.
