by Laura Cisneros

Gaining their first win of the Thorne Cup, the Oklahoma City Blazers beat the El Paso Rhinos four to three. This is the second loss for the Rhinos who have been unable to pull a win in the tournament. Griffin Wieneck (F) pitched in with two goals and an assist for the Blazers.

“The Rhinos are obviously a great team, I think the whole league felt they were the favorites to win the Thorne Cup, to beat them on home ice gives us a ton of momentum for the remainder of the weekend. After seeing my teammates come together and rally the way they did last night I think we should be confident we can beat anyone if we play our game” Says Wieneck.

The Blazers also had goals by Patrick Tondi and Ivan Bonderenko (F). Bonderenko also had two assists during the game. The Blazers will look to earn their spot in the semifinals on April 13th at 2 P.M. when they face the Ogden Mustangs who have already secured their spot in the semifinals. The El Paso Rhinos will face the Utah Outliers at 7 P.M April 13, 2018. The Outliers also looking to secure their spot to the semifinals tonight.
