The Long Beach Bombers are proud to announce the signing of rookie defenseman, Daniel Tomín. The 6’1, 168lb left shot is from Pardubice, Czech Republic. Tomín could be the youngest player on the team, in 2018-2019, as he is born April 23, 2001. Last season, Tomín played in the Czech 3 senior league, for HC Trutnov.

Unfortunately, Tomín suffered an injury that severely limited his game time, last year. However, he did learn a lot under the mentorship of long-time professionals, like Ales Pisa, a one-time Edmonton Oilers defenseman. Two seasons ago, Tomín played for HC Zdar and Sazavou in Czech’s U16. In May, Tomín attended the first-ever Long Beach Bombers Czech-Slovak Prospects Camp, in Brno, Czech Republic.

Long Beach Bombers Head Coach & General Manager, Chris White, commented, “We are excited to add Daniel to our roster, especially given his enthusiasm and desire to develop his game. After a difficult season-ending injury, last year, I’m sure Daniel will be hungry to get back on the ice and compete. It’s never easy being a young defenseman at the Junior A level, but we’ll be focused on accelerating his development in any way we can. Daniel attended our camp in Czech Republic, and was very interested in playing for our organization. He had the ability to meet some of the staff, and talk to his fellow countrymen that have played in Long Beach."

Q & A WITH DANIEL TOMÍN:

Last season, you played senior hockey for HC Bak Trutnov. How did your season go?

I learned a lot last season, as I played with exceptional players, some of whom have experience from NHL, KHL or were even a part of the Czech National Team. Unfortunately, I was injured in the chest area and cervical spine, but I am glad everything healed up well. I wish to avoid these things in the future.

You played along side former Edmonton Oilers defenseman, Ales Pisa, last year. What were you able to learn from a player with his history?

Of course, a player the caliber of Ales Pisa, taught us a lot, he was always trying to hand his experience over to us. I did my best to capitalize on it as much as a young player could. Also, the others helped me a lot, for example, Jan Kolar (a Czech National Team member and a KHL player). It was a very good team in Trutnov. The ex team-mates and also opponents of my older brother, Roman, played there. Before they became a part of a team in Trutnov, they had played in the U20 Czech Extraliga.

You are the second Bombers player from Pardubice, Czech Republic. Did you know about Miroslav Rohlik, or any other Czech Bombers, prior to signing?

Sure, I know Miro Rohlik very well, he is a player coming from my town of Pardubice. Also, Daniel Klinecky (a player from Pardubice as well) played in the WSHL, last season.

You attended the first-ever Long Beach Bombers Czech-Slovak Prospects Camp, in May. What do you remember from that weekend?

The camp captured me a lot, and I am truly glad about getting a chance to participate there. It’s a real challenge for me! I promise to do my best to break through, and become a useful player. My family is a big support to me and I couldn’t afford it without their help.

What are you most looking forward to, both on and off the ice, in Long Beach?

On the ice rink, I am looking forward to a new organization, my teammates, trainings, and also the matches. Off the ice, I am very interested in the United States, itself, as I have never been there. Of course, I am a bit afraid of the language barrier, but I believe to overcome it soon.
