jj landers set for another stint with eagles

The Northern Colorado Eagles are proud to announce the signing of veteran forward, J.J. Landers, for the upcoming 2019-2020 season. Landers started last season with the Eagles however right before the regular season opened the forward was involved in a rental trade to the new expansion organization in Steamboat.

"J.J. was our youngest player and he had a great month with us last year but looking at our roster last season and how deep we were upfront I wanted him to go play lots of minutes in all situations to keep developing his game. He and I had a good conversation on his future and we're on the same page that if he accepted the trade his rights would return to us the following season and here we are today" Said Coach Haddon.

The speedy forward did just that as he led the way for the Steamboat Wranglers in the 2018-2019 season. The Memphis, TN product produced a team-leading 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 point campaign.

"Last September was a good experience with the Eagles. Coach Haddon gave me a shot in training camp and I just tried to compete every day. After the first weekend of the preseason, I was traded to the Steamboat Wranglers. I loved living in Steamboat Springs and the hockey community there was great. I have learned a lot and feel I’ve grown as both a person and a hockey player "said Landers recapping last season.

Landers led the Wranglers in Goals and placed second on the team in points just shy of 1 off the leader.

When asked about the upcoming year. "This year’s team has a chance to make a good run into the playoffs. Last season these guys were tough to play against and the ones coming back have been through the ringer together. I can’t wait to get this year started and it’s petty cool it’s with an old friend. Tyler Trombly and I started our junior careers together two years ago in Alabama and it’s pretty special that I am going to be able to see him finish his off" said Landers with excitement ready to get the 2019-2020 season going.

If Eagle fans don't remember Landers style of play here some insight on who he models his game after. I’d like to say I model my game after Brad Marchand. Not the biggest guy on the ice but plays with heart and grit. Someone who isn’t afraid to get into the dirty areas."

The two-way forward enters his 3rd season of junior hockey. "Not too many 01 birth years have as much junior hockey experience already. J.J.'s work ethic and determination is his engine. J.J. never quits on the play. His ability to put pressure on the other team's players can be sneaky stealth mode which allows him to create opportunities for him and his teammates. I got to watch him grow last year as I feel he can make an instant impact with our returning players and I am excited to work with him and help him build off what he accomplished last season," said Head Coach and GM, Steve Haddon.

McFarland firmly stated that he wanted to stay here and prove himself. Which he did. Brennan didn't make his debut until November 30th and he never looked back closing out the first half in 2018 recording 7 points in 7 games. Most players would have never chosen that path (the hard road). McFarland spent October and November skating every day with the team at practice and then heading over to work with our strength and conditioning coach Brandon Gachne at Phit Gym. Brennan really grew in those two months. He earned his ice time here and outplayed some veteran players for their ice time. As a coach, you want a healthy competitive environment. I am extremely proud of him and I know all the players saw what he accomplished when most guys would have looked for the easier road.  "I had an unbelievable time with the Northern Colorado Eagles. I met a lot of great people that helped me all season, especially my billet family, the Bradshaw's. They gave me a home away from home. Coach Haddon challenged me to reach a new high in my game and I am thrilled to have this opportunity to play hockey at Briercrest College," said Marks, the veteran forward on closing out his junior hockey career.

The grizzled veteran played 185 games between the WSHL and the GOJHL, recording 52 goals and 63 assists for 115 points in a span over 4 seasons.

"The expectations for Jarret coming to our organization this season were very high. His adjustment took some time, but from November through April we watched Jarret grow his game and be one of our most consistent players night in and night out. I couldn't be more proud of Jarret and what he accomplished this season. I know Jarret will have great success at the next level and in life. The organization and I would like to thank Jarret for all his hard work on and off the ice and in the community. We wish him all the best in his next chapter," said Head Coach and GM Steve Haddon.

Marks is the 1st college commitment of the off-season. Stay tuned for more NCAA/CIS/ACAC/BICHL commitments and player signings as the off-season heats up.
