San Diego Sabers Announce New Head Coach
Chris Slater a Level 5 USA Hockey Coach and Graduate of Western Michigan University; currently serves as the Director of the MICHIGAN ELITE BRIGADE. The Brigade compete out of Metro Detroit as the premier HS Elite program. Coach Slater recently spent three seasons as a Head Coach in the North American Prospects Hockey League; U18 Midget Major AAA division. During the 2011-12 season Slater guided the Detroit Falcons to a 3rd place finish in the NAPHL playoffs; a franchise best. Coach Chris Slater brings a wealth of experience to the San Diego Sabers organization. Coach Slater has coached collegiate hockey for Western Michigan University Stallions ACHA Division 1 hockey club and the Detroit Falcons Midget Major AAA North American Prospects League hockey program. Chris played division 1 NCAA hockey for the Michigan State Spartans and went on to a seven-year professional career. Coach Slater had stops in the American Hockey League, East coast Hockey League and the British Ice Hockey Super League.
Chris will be working alongside assistant coaches Petr Kankovsky, David Vychodil, Tomas Kapusta, and goaltending coach Juha Kanervisto.
