WSHL Mountain Division Top Performers

by Charles Woodall-Pike

The 2017-18 WSHL season is off and running and there have already been some strong showings by teams. The Superior RoughRiders put together back-to-back shutouts over the Cheyenne Stampede. Meanwhile, the Ogden Mustangs took two of three on the road over the Colorado Jr. Eagles. Here is a look at some of the big performances in the Mountain Division during the season’s first weekend.

Nikita Sheberov – Superior RoughRiders

There were a few players on the RoughRiders who had a great first weekend. Perhaps the most impressive was Sheberov, who scored six goals and added two assists over the two games against Cheyenne. Four of those six goals came on opening night as the Russian forward helped power Superior to a 9-0 victory.

Ross Bartlett – Ogden Mustangs

Just like Sheberov, Ogden’s Ross Bartlett also enjoyed an eight-point weekend, collecting three goals and five assists in Fort Collins. Bartlett’s big night came on Saturday as he racked up a goal and four assists in Odgen’s 8-2 win. The Florida native and former Oklahoma City Blazer is already well on his way to surpassing his totals from last season, when he registered 11 goals and 18 assists.

Matus Spodniak – Ogden Mustangs

Matus Spodniak entered this season in pursuit of the Ogden Mustangs all-time scoring title. His run at history is off to a good start as he added another six points to his career total with two goals and four assists. Spodniak recorded two points in each of the three games over the weekend, which puts him on a good pace to eclipse Schuyler Seyfert’s mark as the top Mustang scorer in team history.
