Steinbarger Re-Signs With Junior Thunder
Corey Steinbarger, who will be entering his 3rd year for the Junior Thunder, is a 6’0, 170 pound, 2000 birth year defenseman from Wichita, Kansas. Steinbarger who was a member of the Thorne Cup Championship team played in 23 games his rookie season posting 1 goal and added 1 assist.
Corey a natural defenseman played the majority of that season at forward due to the talent the Junior Thunder had on defense that season. Although he didn’t manage to get in a playoff game that year, he was able to learn a lot from players like Zach Balodis and Tyler Crites who are currently attending Lebanon Valley ,NCAA DIII and Robert Morris, ACHA DII, respectively.
The left handed, hard shooting defenseman got to play his natural position last season and his production went up, he scored 5 goals and added 4 assists for 9 points in 50 games, while also racking up 106 penalty minutes.
“I think this will be a break out season for Corey”, commented coach Weingartner, he also went on to say, “He shoots the puck very well and has really adapted the coaching staff’s philosophy regarding systems and positioning on the ice, especially on our Olympic ice where players tend to get lost in space. His work ethic and familiarity with how we do things will be instrumental in his development this year. There is no doubt we will be expecting a leadership role out of Corey this year”.
