Superior's Fast Start
Three weeks into the Mountain Division race and three teams have gotten off to impressive starts. The Colorado Jr. Eagles and Ogden Mustangs are picking up where they left off last season, battling each other for the top seed early on this season. However, they both are getting a challenge from the Superior RoughRiders, who started the season with five straight wins and are currently just two points out of first place. Here is a look at Superior’s early season success so far.
LEADING THE CHARGE
Nikita Sheberov has played a big role in getting Superior toward the top of the Mountain Division. The Russian forward has 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points, which leads all Mountain Division scorers and is fourth in the WSHL. Sheberov has recorded five multi-goal games so far, including a four-goal performance against Cheyenne on Sept. 22 and a three-goal outing against Ogden on Oct. 6. He has been a big reason why Superior has the second-most goals among Mountain Division teams.
FAST STARTS
Another key to Superior’s great start has been jumping out to early leads. In five of the RoughRiders’ seven games, they scored the opening goal within the first five minutes. In those five contests, Superior is 4-1-0. If the RoughRiders can keep getting on the scoreboard early, opponents will have a tough time keeping up with them throughout the season.
