Western Division Three Stars
Now that five of the seven Western Division teams were in action over the weekend, it's time to take a look back at some of the best performances that we witnessed the past few days.
Three Stars of the Weekend
1st Star – Dawson Keay - 5 goals, 2 assists vs. Phoenix
Keay helped Valencia sweep the Phoenix Knights this weekend on the road. With line mate Jakob Kranabetter out of action on Sunday, Keay was able to score two goals and help put the game out of Phoenix's reach.
2nd Star – Tomas Urbanec - 4 goals, 1 assist vs. Fresno
Urbanec was the first Bomber to light the lamp this season, getting things started just 2:19 into the opener last Thursday. His goals on Friday and Saturday helped spark comeback wins for the Bombers, as they swept the Monsters with a trio of one-goal wins.
3rd Star – Jesse Zaharichuk - 2 goals, 3 assists @ Tahoe
Zaharichuk played a big role in both of Ontario's wins on the road this weekend against the Tahoe Icemen, as you would expect from a 20-year-old forward who played parts of three seasons in the WHL with the Kamloops Blazers, Kootenay Ice and Lethbridge Hurricanes. On Friday, he scored twice, including a goal with just six seconds remaining in the second period to go into the third period tied at two, in a game the Avalanche would go on to win. On Sunday, he assisted on William Ma's game-winner late in the third.
Social Media Award
Fresno Monsters Social Media Team
If you're looking for a good follow on social media, check out the Fresno Monsters. They did a great job this past weekend for the season opening series in Long Beach, combining humor and information throughout their live game updates. None better than when the Monsters had some fun with the Oklahoma City account, after a Monsters fan had tweeted to Fresno saying "Go Monsters!" earlier that night.
