Western Division Three Stars -10/20/17

by Steven Force

All six Western Division teams were in action this weekend, with each facing another Western Division team.  The Long Beach Bombers faced the San Diego Sabers, the Monsters and Flyers met in Fresno for a three-game series, and Ontario welcomed Phoenix to town for a series.

Looking through the stats of the six teams, there were a few standout performances for this past weekend.  These are the Three Stars of the Week for the Western Division.

1st Star – Jakob Kranabetter

Kranabetter had three goals and seven assists in the three game series against the Fresno Monsters this weekend.  That runs his totals to seven goals and 20 assists in just eight games.  His 27 points leads the WSHL in scoring, and he is now in fifth all-time in scoring in league history.  He sits four points behind Austin Balko, who played three seasons with the El Paso Rhinos from 2007-2010.

2nd Star – Cody Key

Key played in important role in the Monsters picking up their first win of the season this past weekend, and they did so in impressive fashion.  In the Monsters’ 11-3 win over Valencia on Saturday night, Key had a hat-trick to go with his two assists.  Over the entire series, Key had three goals and three assists.

3rd Star – Miroslav Rohlik

Rohlik continued to show why he leads the Bombers in scoring this season with his six-point performance in the team’s two-game series against San Diego.  He had two goals and four assists, giving him six goals and five assists on the season.
